Many fans and experts questioned the Rajasthan Royals after they decided to release ahead of the IPL 2025 auction. The England captain had been the main member of RR’s batting line-up since joining them in 2018, scoring memorable performances, including a record-equalling four centuries in a single season during 2022. However, concerns over Buttler’s past injuries and future played a major role in the Royals letting go of their star batter. Gujarat Titans, capitalizing on the moment, secured Buttler’s services for an INR 15.75 crore.
Buttler made his former franchise pay for this as he scored a brilliant fifty against them in Jaipur in Match No. 47 on Monday. The English batter, who has already scored 404 runs in the 2025 season, is currently sitting fourth on the Orange Cap list. Buttler hammered a quickfire 50* off just 26 balls, lacing his innings with three boundaries and four sixes, and pushed the total to 209/4 in the allotted 20 overs.
After being asked to bat first, Shubman Gill played a captain’s innings with 84 off 50 balls, missing out on a well-deserved century by just 16 runs. Along with B Sai Sudharsan, Gill stitched a 93-run opening stand to give the Titans a brilliant start. Even after the fall of wickets, the visitors kept up the scoring rate, with contributions from and Shahrukh Khan alongside Buttler’s cameo.
“Yeah great performance. The two guys at the top have been outstanding, setting great platforms. We’ve got a good score on the board. Really good wicket. Obviously the bounce is a little lower here in Jaipur, but lots of value with the fast outfield. Will have to bowl well. I asked him what he thought a good score was, he said 190-plus. We’re a bit above but if the dew comes, it might skid on,” he said on air during mid-innings break
I’m always expecting a few bouncers from Jofra. I’m sure he’ll repay me sometime in the nets. From day one, watching him in the nets, I was blown away by how good he was (talking about Sudharsan). He’s got a really good head on his shoulders to go with the talent,” the stumper-batter concluded.
