Mumbai Indians (MI) have made an addition to their squad for the remainder of IPL 2025 by signing leg-spinner Raghu Sharma as a replacement player for the injured Vignesh Puthur.
‘s young left-arm wrist spinner, Puthur, made a strong contribution earlier in IPL 2025. He notably picked up three wickets against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on debut and went on to claim six wickets in five matches at an economy of 9.08. However, Puthur has now been ruled out of the rest of the season due to bone stress reactions in both shins.
MI turned to 32-year-old Raghu, a right-arm leg-break bowler from Jalandhar, Punjab. Raghu was already part of the MI setup as a net bowler and has joined the main squad at his base price of INR 30 lakh from the RAPP (Replacement and Auction Pool Player) list. This records his maiden appearance in the Indian Premier League.

The leggie is coming off an impressive domestic record. He has played for Punjab and Puducherry across formats and has been a consistent performer, especially in red-ball cricket. In 11 first-class matches, he has taken 57 wickets at an average of 19.59, including five five-wicket hauls and three ten-wicket match hauls. His best bowling figures in first-class cricket are 7/56.
Raghu has also been brilliant in the white-ball formats, having picked up 14 wickets in nine matches in the 2024-25 Vijay Hazare Trophy. Overall, he has 14 wickets in nine List A matches and three wickets in as many T20 appearances, with best figures of 4/37 and 2/34 respectively.
Meanwhile, having won five of their last five matches after a sluggish start, MI currently sit third on the points table with 12 points from 10 games. With the five-time champions handing multiple debuts this season, there are heavy chances that Raghu might make it to the playing XI in the upcoming games.
