The five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) delivered a powerful performance to eliminate the inaugural champions Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur. MI registered their sixth consecutive victory in the IPL 2025 season and climbed to the top of the points table with seven wins.
RR skipper Riyan Parag won the toss and opted to bowl first by hoping to restrict MI’s strong batting lineup. But the RR bowlers were no match for the MI top order. The openers Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton got off to a flying start by taking full advantage of the powerplay. The Indian veteran scored 53 off 36 balls, and the South African batter smashed 61 off 38 deliveries. The duo stitched a formidable 116-run partnership in just 71 balls.
Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya in the middle overs accelerated the innings with a fiery 94-run stand off just 44 balls. Both remained unbeaten on 48 runs from 23 deliveries each, which led MI to a total of 217 in their 20 overs. For RR, Maheesh Theekshana and Riyan Parag managed to pick up a wicket.
