CSK players wear black armbands in tribute during IPL 2025 clash
IPL 2025, Match 38: MS Dhoni and Rohit SharmaThe players of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were seen sporting black armbands during Match 38 of the ongoing edition of the IPL 2025 (Indian Premier League) against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, April 20. There has been no official statement from the franchise up until now.
However, renowned anchor Harsha Bhogle revealed the reason during the post-match presentation. The CSK players wore the armbands as a mark of respect for Devon Conway‘s father, Philip Conway, who unfortunately passed away at an unconfirmed date in the recent past. Notably, the Kiwi top-order batter did not feature in the recently concluded fixture.
Conway last played for CSK on April 11 against Kolkata Knight Riders at Chepauk. He did not feature for the franchise in their away fixture against Lucknow Super Giants. However, there was no official communication from the side as to why he was sidelined against LSG. Conway has played three innings this season so far. Notably, his 69-run knock against Punjab Kings came in a losing cause.
CSK post competitive total but struggle with the ball
Speaking of their game against the Mumbai Indians, visitors Chennai Super Kings lost the match by a comprehensive margin of nine wickets with 26 deliveries to spare. The Men in Yellow were sent in to bat first after Hardik Pandya won the toss. Half-centuries by Ravindra Jadeja (53* off 35) and Shivam Dube (50 off 32) led the way for CSK to post a decent total on the board. Jasprit Bumrah (2/25 in four overs) and Mitchell Santner (1/14 in three overs) starred with the ball.
Rohit and Suryakumar steer MI to dominant victory
As far as the run chase is concerned, Ryan Rickelton was the sole wicket to fall in the second innings. The 17-year-old IPL debutant Ayush Mhatre, who earlier played a lively 32-run knock off just 15 deliveries, caught hold of the ball at the deep midwicket fence to mark the end of the wicketkeeper-batter. Rohit Sharma (76* off 45) and Suryakumar Yadav (68* off 30) were flawless in their endeavour to get past CSK’s total on the night.
