Star all-rounder has been ruled out of the IPL 2025 due to an injury. The star player suffered a fractured finger, which has led to his premature exit from the 18th edition of the league. During the toss between CSK and PBKS, Shreyas Iyer confirmed the news and claimed that they had not thought about the replacement of the star player yet.
The PBKS skipper won the toss and opted to bowl first against CSK. Danny Morrison asked Iyer for an update on Maxwell’s injury, to which the latter confirmed that it was serious, thereby officiating the Australian was ruled out of the remainder of the tournament. He confirmed that the team’s playing XI would not feature Maxwell against the home side.
“Very sad to miss out Glenn Maxwell, who has a fractured finger. We haven’t decided on the replacement so far. Yeah, we are probably sticking to our last playing XI. Not sure what the changes are. But the majority of the players are there,” Iyer said during the toss.
Glenn Maxwell’s performance in the IPL 2025
The Melbourne-born was bought by PBKS in the IPL auctions 2025 for a price of INR 4.2 crore, returning to his former franchise once again. The homecoming did not go well for the experienced player, as he could not bat well for the 2014 runners-up. The MVP of the 2014 season played seven matches and failed with the bat in this edition, while he did decently well as a supportive bowler.
With the bat, the right-hander scored just 48 runs in 6 innings at a batting average of just 8.00, at a poor strike rate of 97.96, with the best score of 30. For the second season in a row, Maxwell failed to register a half-century in a match.
With the ball, he was better, just like the 2024 season. The right-arm slow off-spinner claimed 4 wickets in 6 innings at a bowling average of 27.50, at a good bowling strike rate of 19.50, at an economy rate of 8.46. In his absence, PBKS could play , Josh Inglis, or Azmatullah Omarzai, however, a replacement is expected to be announced soon.
