The five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) are clashing on with Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on May 1. RR skipper won the toss and opted to field first by pointing the potential impact of dew later in the game. But, the decision did not pay off for them.
MI openers Rohit Sharma and South African Ryan Rickelton got their team off to a flying start with a superb opening partnership. The right-hand and left-hand duo partnered each other perfectly and stitched together 116 runs for the first wicket. Rickelton smashed 61 off 38 balls, while the MI former skipper scored a fluent 53 off 36 balls.
The middle-order batters Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya carried the momentum forward with an aggressive stand. The pair added 94 runs off just 44 deliveries for the third wicket. Both the batters remained unbeaten where each scored 48 runs off 23 balls at an impressive strike rate of 208.7.
From the RR bowling, Maheesh Theekshana and Riyan Parag managed to pick up a wicket each. MI posted a total of 218 runs at the end of their 20 overs.
Last time at this venue, the 14-year-old sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi made headlines by smashing a 37-ball century and so fans will expect another fireworks from the youngster.
MI have won five consecutive matches and currently sit third in the points table, and they now will aim for a spot in the playoffs. Meanwhile, this match is a must-win for RR to keep their playoff hopes alive in IPL 2025.
