Punjab Kings displayed a convincing performance against CSK in the 49th match of the IPL 2025. The visiting side overcame the home side by four wickets and knocked them out of the tournament. Chasing 190, the PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer hammered 72 off 42 balls after Prabhsimran Singh chipped in with his 54 off 36 balls.
With this result, MS Dhoni and his men have become the first side to crash out of the cash-rich league. PBKS lost their way towards the ending moments, where they lost 2 wickets and took 10 balls to chase down the last six runs. However, they pulled off the chase successfully in the end and sealed CSK’s fate.
Earlier, Iyer won the toss and invited the hosts to bat first. After being sent to bat first, CSK all-rounder Sam Curran made a crucial 88 to help the five-time IPL champions post 190 runs on the board. However, at one stage, it looked like CSK would get it more. It was Yuzvendra Chahal’s superb hat-trick that turned the game around. With the win over CSK, PBKS climbed to the second spot with 13 points.
CSK fell down in the table and suffered a disappointing loss. Punjab Kings looked like they would chase it quite comfortably. Despite a minor hiccup, PBKS got over the line, thanks to the brilliance from Iyer and Prabhsimran. CSK has no chance to qualify for the playoffs mathematically and lost their fifth home game in a row in the IPL 2025.
