is currently leading Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the absence of primary captain Ruturaj Gaikwad.
The wicketkeeper-batter has not been able to revive CSK’s fortunes in IPL 2025 as the five-time champions are languishing at the bottom of the points table. The Men in Yellow have lost seven out of the nine matches they have played so far in IPL 2025.
Legendary ex-Australian wicketkeeper-batter Adam Gilchrist suggested that Dhoni should call time on his playing career after IPL 2025. The former opined that Dhoni has nothing to prove to anyone in the sport.
“MS Dhoni has nothing to prove to anyone in the game. Well, he will know what to do but, for the future, perhaps he does not need to be there next year. I love you MS, you are a champion and an icon,” Gilchrist told Cricbuzz ahead of CSK’s clash against Punjab Kings on Wednesday, April 30, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Dhoni, who is currently 43 years old, has batted in nine innings this season. He has scored 140 runs at an average of 28 and a strike rate of 142.86. Dhoni won the Player of the Match award against Lucknow Super Giants, when he scored an unbeaten 11-ball 26. However, this has been the former India captain’s only match-winning innings in IPL 2025.
