Mohanlal scored a big hit in Malayalam with the movie Thudarum. The film came as a surprise to the audiences and has performed exceptionally well. The team also released the film in Telugu, with the intention of it earning a significant amount of money in the Telugu states. Unfortunately, the team’s poor planning led to their failure.
In Malayalam, The film minted over 100 Cr rupees at the box office in the first week overall. However, the team has displayed the least interest in promoting the movie in the Telugu states. Mohanlal and his team also promoted Empuraan very well, and he even held a press meet in Telugu for the film Baroz, but ignored Thudarum completely.
The film features Sobhana, who is a noted name among Telugu audiences. A single press meet could have generated interest towards the film, and the audience would have watched it, considering the positive word of mouth. Ironically, the team also did not take proper care in crafting a proper regional title for the film and retained the Malayalam title, which is meaningless.
Telugu audiences have always supported good content, regardless of language, and they deserve a proper title and a neat promotional campaign. Unfortunately, the team itself missed a great opportunity by not promoting the movie in the Telugu states.
Altogether, it is a wasted opportunity, especially, when there is a sad state of theatrical cinema all along.
