Facing attacks from the BJP over party leaders making comments on the Pahalgam terror attack, the Congress said Monday that those speaking on the issue “do not reflect the INC’s views”.
The statement from the Congress comes as the stepped up its attack on Congress leaders, with national spokesperson Monday attacking the Opposition party, asking if Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress chief “have no control over their party” and alleging that “all these statements are being misused by Pakistan”.
In a statement, Congress communication in charge Jairam Ramesh said: “The Congress Working Committee had met on April 24, 2025, and passed a resolution on the brutal terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam two days earlier. Thereafter, on April 25, 2025, the Congress President and the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha attended the all-party meeting and put forward the party’s views.”
Ramesh added, “Some Congress leaders have been speaking to the media”. “They speak for themselves and do not reflect the INC’s views. There should be absolutely no doubt whatsoever at this most sensitive of times that the CWC resolution, the views expressed by Shri Mallikarjun Kharge and Shri Rahul Gandhi and the views of authorised AICC office-bearers alone represent the position of the INC,” said the Congress MP.
Before this, Karnataka Chief Minister came under attack from the Opposition BJP and (Secular) for his anti-war remarks made in the context of the Pahalgam terrorist attack.
Responding to media queries on whether a war with Pakistan was inevitable in the wake of Tuesday’s attack that claimed 26 lives, Siddaramaiah replied in the negative. “It is not necessary to wage war with Pakistan. The (central) government should take measures to beef up security in Kashmir. We are not in favour of war. To ensure peace in Kashmir, security should be beefed up,” he said in Mysuru Saturday.
At a press briefing in Monday, BJP’s Ravi Shankar Prasad asked, “What are the Congress’s senior leaders saying?”. “Why are they saying so?… A pattern seems to have been created… Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah has said war is not an option…Pakistan TV channels and their generals are using this,” said Prasad.
“All these statements are being misused by Pakistan, their social media is full of it… Was Siddaramaiah spoken to? Will any action be taken? This is not right; we condemn such statements,” he said.
