Mumbai Indians (MI) spinner Vignesh Puthur opened up about his emotions on clicking a picture alongside MS Dhoni after the match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in .
MI clashed against their arch-rivals on their home ground, Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, where they avenged the defeat in the first match that happened on March 23 in Chennai, winning by nine wickets. Rohit Sharma (76 off 45) and Suryakumar Yadav (68 off 30) wreaked havoc on the Men in Yellow, scoring two fantastic half-centuries. The Chennai-based franchise put up 176 runs on the board, which looked like a competitive score until Rohit and started going after the bowlers in the powerplay.
Ryan Rickelton’s wicket did not affect MI much because Suryakumar handled the rest of the game with ease. The Super Kings’ bowlers did not have a good day, failing to get the breakthroughs that could have changed the course of the game.
Meanwhile, after the game, the young spinner was spotted clicking pictures with his idol, MS Dhoni. “A moment that my younger self would never believe, with the man who inspired a generation,” he captioned the post.
We needed those extra runs: MS Dhoni
Meanwhile, CSK skipper MS Dhoni spoke about the team and what they lacked against MI. Dhoni mentioned that they were short of a few more runs as 175 was not a good target. The Super Kings have very few chances of qualifying for the playoffs now, and this will be the first time in the history of IPL that they fail to qualify in two consecutive seasons.
“I think we were quite below par because we all knew that dew would come in the second half, and we were in a position to exploit the middle overs. I just felt that, with Bumrah being one of the best death bowlers in the world right now, once they started their death bowling early, that was the moment we should have capitalized and begun our slog slightly earlier. Even if Bumrah had gone for runs after that, it would have been a bonus. I think there were a few overs where we could have scored a bit more. We needed those extra runs because 175, with the dew around, is not a par score,” said Dhoni at the post-match presentation.
