In Match 49 of the ongoing IPL 2025 at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium, Punjab Kings registered their sixth win of IPL 2025, defeating by four wickets with just two balls to spare. The victory guided PBKS to the second spot in the points table while officially eliminating the five-time champions CSK from playoff contention.
After winning the toss and electing to field first, PBKS were the reason behind CSK’s early struggles as both openers, Shaik Rasheed and Ayush Mhatre, departed within the first four overs. Sam Curran acted as the crisis manager with his 88 off just 47 balls, hitting nine fours and four sixes to give CSK a chance to post a 200-plus total.
Curran’s partnership with Dewald Brevis (32 off 26) was important in rebuilding the innings. When Brevis fell in the 14th over, the English batter continued to accelerate. In the 16th over, he hammered Suryansh Shedge for 26 runs, including a couple of fours and as many maximums.
Just when CSK looked for a big total, Yuzvendra Chahal produced one of the best moments of the tournament. Brought in to bowl the 19th over with MS Dhoni at the crease, Chahal first removed the CSK captain after he had hit a six. He followed it up with a sensational hat-trick, dismissing Deepak Hooda, Anshul Kamboj, and Noor Ahmad in consecutive deliveries. The collapse saw CSK lose their last five wickets for just six runs in seven balls, finishing at 190 all out in 19.2 overs.

In reply, PBKS started strongly as Priyansh Arya (23 off 15) and Prabhsimran Singh built a solid opening stand. After Arya fell to Khaleel Ahmed, Prabhsimran continued his fine form, reaching his second consecutive half-century. He managed 54 off 36 balls, including five fours and three sixes.
Captain Shreyas Iyer acted as the backbone of the chase, scoring 72 off 41 deliveries, featuring five boundaries and four sixes. Shashank Singh’s cameo (23 off 12) ended with a spectacular boundary catch from Dewald Brevis. However, PBKS eventually ended on the winning end.
