Suryakumar Yadav smashed a 28-ball 54 against the Lucknow Super Giants to claim the Orange Cap as Mumbai Indians scored 215/7 in the first innings of their Indian Premier League clash at the Wankhede Stadium. Yadav’s knock threw down the gauntlet for Lucknow Super Giants’ Nicholas Pooran, who was fourth in the standings with 377 runs from nine innings before the game started. After scoring 27 runs off 15 balls before perishing, Pooran climbed to third spot leaving behind Virat Kohli. Kohli is now fourth in the Orange Cap race with 392 runs, and will have a chance to rise into the standings when Royal Challengers Bengaluru face Delhi Capitals.
Yadav has scored 427 runs in 10 innings in 2025.
“It’s the first time I am wearing this () after a long time, feels really special,” Yadav told the broadcasters JioHotstar in the mid-innings break. “I was really happy when we lost the toss, because it is really hot out there but scoring 200-plus it is really good from a batting point of view. It’s a good score and I feel the wicket is a little slow and I feel it is going to be challenging out there for their batting line-up, let’s see how it goes.”
